about
About this track:
I derived much joy from Vin Scelsa's long-gone radio program "Idiot's Delight." I cried listening to the last episode in May 2015, especially because I had fallen out the habit of listening to it, and realized how much I had missed. Luckily, there still are plenty of other great DJs and shows, and thanks to streaming, I can listen to them whenever I want.
lyrics
Lyrics:
Square room, white walls, pen, paper, phone calls. Dial turned, time stopped, guitar starts, pressure drops. Now you’re elegiac. You don’t even have to say it. Sorry about my lost years, when you didn’t have my ears. People are doing things for money; you and I must always do things for money. But we’ve also done tons of things for fun, when we can let ourselves have fun. So, let me know when you see the light. I’ll be your idiot tonight.
The choices you make reflect the earthquakes. We won’t take up space. We can still shake up this place. And beauty’s still there, someone still cares. We all have our tastes, but now they’re all over the place. People are doing things for money. You and I have always done things for money. But we’ve also done tons of things for love, when we can muster up the love. So, let me know when the sparks ignite. I’ll be your idiot. I’ll be your idiot tonight.
Your sweet laugh’s a little lower, and you talk a little slower. This city’s not the same. Oh, I hope they make it cool again!
But who cares, anyhow? The whole world’s yours now. You’re all comin’ on in Egypt and Tucson. And you’re my pleasure, at my leisure. Saturday night treats my Monday right. Sometimes we favor the heroes; there’s a reason they’re called the heroes. But we’re all still finding new things to love, when we can muster up the love. So, let me know when the waves take flight. I’ll be your idiot. I’ll be your idiot tonight.
