about

This one is by David Crosby, from the 1972 “Graham Nash David Crosby” album. It’s very Dead-influenced, and Garcia and Lesh play on the album track. I tried to make it a bit folkier than the original? We cut this live to vinyl at Earnest Tube in Bristol, VA, and we thank Dave Polster and Clint Holley for the engineering, lathing, and vibing.

Whenever I’ve thought of the Dad Tapes over the years, this is the song that kind of embodies them for me. I’m sure my dad found it interesting on many levels, but it also shows he didn’t just go for hits. And the story and the metaphor and the relentlessness of it hit as hard today as they did then.
