About this track:
Have you ever become so obsessed with a song that it kind of turns bad on you, and you have to get it out of your head? Especially when that song is functioning in your life as a way of exacerbating another situation. That used to happen to me all the time. It doesn't happen so much now; music doesn't always have the "teeth" for me that it used to, except for every once in a while, when it TOTALLY STILL DOES. Anyway, that's what this song is about.

Two times in an hour, I kicked out my power. Songs are cutting off midway.
It had the strange effect of making them seem less than they were to me back in the day. Streaming all the old songs got my memory worked up. My mind was racing with the grade school phrasing. Had to turn it off, and I’m lovin’ the silence tonight. What if music has no meaning? Yeah, it’s kept my heart beatin’, but it’s let me down and led me astray as many times as it’s saved the day.

26 to none, waitin’ on someone, listening to his favorite song. God, I love it too, so it must be true that this silly boy, he is the one. Seems like genius, God bless. Fits like my wedding dress. My mind was racing with the 90s phrasing. Had to turn it off, and I was lovin’ the silence that night. What if music has no purpose, but to caress us, and then to hurt us? Yeah, it’s let me down and led me astray as many times as it’s saved the day.

So, I take the note that keeps repeating and hold it in a straight line. And listen to the sounds around me without identifying. And for a while it’s all clear, and I can see through to the next thing, until a song comes rushing in.

I went back in time, found music that was mine, went forward and found something new. Felt like a new girl, saw differently this world, but it didn’t do what it used to do. With all my experience, I’ve lost my innocence. It goes on repeat and it won’t release me. Getting so sick of it, man, just give me the silence tonight. What if music has no meaning? Yeah, it’s kept my heart beatin’, but it’s let me down and led me astray as many times as it’s saved the day.

What if you heard a song, fell head over heels in love, told yourself to be strong, and only listen that once? Would you sing to yourself in the car, figure it out on guitar, get sick of it anyway, find something new to play? Or give in to your musical sins, and listen till you’re sick again? It’s a matter, not if, but when.
